New York Mets Sign Outfielder Jay Bruce

A senior at New Jersey's Phillipsburg High School and member of its wrestling team, Andrew "Drew" Horun maintains a variety of interests, including playing guitar and volunteering for local nonprofit organizations. Beyond his own athletic endeavors in wrestling, Andrew Horun is a passionate fan of Major League Baseball's (MLB) New York Mets.

After making the playoffs in consecutive seasons, the Mets finished fourth in their division with a disappointing win-loss record of 70-92 in 2017. In August, the team dealt power-hitting outfielder Jay Bruce, who was on an expiring contract, to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for minor league relief pitcher Ryder Ryan. However, the Mets pursued Bruce throughout the early part of the MLB offseason and, on January 16, the two sides finalized a three-year contract worth a combined $39 million.

The 30-year-old veteran of 10 big league seasons also had suitors in Houston and San Francisco, but he cited the Mets' honesty throughout the whole process as one of his main reasons for returning to New York. Bruce hit 29 home runs and recorded 75 runs batted in (RBI) in 103 games with the Mets last season before being dealt to the Indians, where he hit an additional seven home runs and 26 RBI. Through 1,416 career games, the right fielder has 277 home runs, 838 RBI, and a .249 batting average.
