TRADITION RECONTEXTUALIZED // jacquard textile collection // DLA project // 2017
Folk culture provides inspiring themes which are exciting to the designer's eyes. Besides, they confer meaning or can be unfolded in the contemporary design environment. In my doctoral masterpiece the core inspirations were the motifs of Hungarian folk weave and plastic values. I researched how traditional motifs can be attractive in the 21th century.
My goal as a designer was to demonstrate the elements of my own tradition that I consider integrable into contemporary design. During the design process I changed the traditional composition of surfaces, the color and the way of weaving to offer a contemporary alternative use of traditional motifs. In textile design, the plasticity of the material provided me with a potential point of contact, namely that moving the surface of the fabric may produce exiting results by shifting the patterns. The factory execution lends a new interpretation to traditional patterns. The pattern shapes actively the surfaces of the fabric through the weaving structure. I raised the plasticity of the original woven fabrics and designed textiles which have offered the possibility of touch and a step closer.
The used material and the color make traditional motifs suit in contemporary design and in modern interiors. In addition, combination of craftsmanship and leading-edge high-tech weaving in the TextielLab is capable to create tactile surfaces which reflect to current trends and also make them interesting for the recipient. Realizing the freedom of touch, the recipient involuntarily establishes a close contact with the material, enabling them to focus more on the subject-matter it conveys.

A népi kultúrában vannak olyan inspiráló témák, melyek tervezői szemmel izgalmasak és a kortárs design közegében is mondanivalóval bírnak, vagy szóra bírhatók. A mesterművemben a fő inspiráció a magyar tradicionális szőttesek mintázata és plasztikája volt. Azt vizsgáltam, hogyan tehetőek vonzóvá ezek a tradicionális motívumok a 21. században.
Designerként az volt a célom, hogy rámutassak a saját tradícióm olyan elemeire, melyeket a kortárs design közegébe integrálhatónak tartok. A tervezés során megváltoztattam a felület tradicionális komponálását, a szövés módját és a színeket egyaránt, ezzel alternatívát kínálva a tradicionális motívumok kortárs használatára. A textiltervezés területén belül az anyag plasztikusságában találtam egy lehetséges kapcsolódási pontot, mégpedig azt, hogy az anyag felületének megmozgatása a mintázat által mindenképpen érdekes eredményeket hozhat. A gyári kivitelezéssel a tradicionális motívumok új olvasatot nyernek. A mintázat a szövött struktúrán keresztül aktívan alakítja az anyagok felületét. Az eredeti anyagok plasztikusságát tovább fokoztam és olyan textileket terveztem, melyek a tapintás és a közelebb lépés lehetőségét kínálják fel.
A motívumok a szín és az anyaghasználat révén beilleszthetőek a kortárs design közegbe és a modern enteriőrökbe. A high-tech által pedig olyan plasztikus felületek hozhatóak létre, amelyek reflektálnak az aktuális trendekre és a befogadó számára megragadóvá teszi a textileket. A befogadó a tapintás lehetőségét érzékelve akaratlanul is szorosabb fizikai kontaktusba kerül az anyaggal, így az általa hordozott tartalomra is nagyobb figyelem irányulhat.
