Gulla Residence
San Nicolas, Pangasinan
total gross floor area: 144 sq mts

Renovation of Gulla Residence: we were challenged for the task providing the owner's requirements from what already exist: an unfinished structure and an old house.

the old wooden structure of the house was removed due to termite infestation and some of the wood were already decaying, removing the old structure also allowed a 4m setback from the main road providing privacy and security for the house..around 80% concrete structure were retained and reinforced, nevertheless. all of the wood materials from the old house was reused or recycled for the new house. all of the wood structure seen in the renovated residence were actually parts from the old house. except for the bedroom, den and service doors. even the main door(made of Narra/Philippine mahogany) was reused and resized for the new residence.

window opening in the frontage was minimized to reduce heat transfer into the interiors since the frontage is facing the warm afternoon sunrays coming from south - west..; also, minimizing opening from the frontage and added setback provide more privacy and security for the residence.
the 4meter setback from the road provides more open space and landscape garden, giving the residence "more life"
