4 Cat's Storytelling Project

4 Cat's Storytelling
4Cats was started by Joey Simon who had a son (Jet) that was born prematurely. When doctor’s told her that the risk of her son developing learning disabilities was high, she and her husband decided to share their love of art with Jet. At four year’s old, Jet made paintings and art stories that were very impressive. Other parents asked if Joey would consider offering workshops for children and 4Cat’s was born. Founded in 2005, 4Cat’s has now become a franchise that gives children the opportunity to be creative and have fun making art.
At 4Cat’s, children learn about many different painters including Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, and Georgia O’Keeffe. Children can use a variety of different artist’s materials such as: silk screens, canvas, acrylic, palette knives, pottery wheels, easels, kilns, charcoal and much more...
What the children enjoy the most at 4Cat’s is the splatter room. It is the one place where you are allowed to make a mess. On the walls, ceiling, floor, bench, clothes, and oh yes even paint in your hair. When the children were told to pop the white paint filled balloons over the canvas their reactions were priceless. What made this experience very special was that the canvas was made up of several smaller canvas’s for the soccer team to paint. Each child then was able to take their piece home with them, knowing that they have one of the pieces that make up an even greater work of art that they did as a team.
Some of the children wore plastic bags over their shoes, since it is impossible to avoid getting messy in the splatter room. One of the ways that the children painted the canvas was by using syringes full of paint and squirting different colors onto the canvas. There was a great energy in the room with laughter and amazement as they squirted the paint onto the canvas and sometimes on each other.
While the kids were painting, one of the girls accidentally got paint on her nose and when all of the other kids saw her nose they wanted to paint theirs too. By the end of the splatter painting, they all had purple paint on their noses.
Whether there is a party or a class, parents are welcomed to stay and witness the experience that their child has with art.
Following after the splatter paint, children loved exploring the endless possibilities of mixing different colors with the spinwheel. Each child was anxious to make their own spin art.
4Cat’s Arts Studio provides a unique environment where kids can be covered in paint and develop strong friendships.
4Cat’s was started to help a child develop and now children are able to experience art in a very special and intimate way.
