American Heart Association Helps Raise Stroke Awareness

An employee of the Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation for over three decades, David Bohn of Redding, CT, currently serves the organization as company president. In addition to his professional pursuits, David Bohn gives back to the community through his support of both local Redding, CT, nonprofit organizations and national groups, such as the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association recently teamed up with the American Stroke Association in releasing a parody music video to raise awareness about the most common warning signs of stroke. A lighthearted reminder of stroke symptoms, the video features a parody of the '70s hit song Y.M.C.A., with lyrics replaced by F.A.S.T., an acronym standing for face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, and time to call 911.

Recent advances in care have drastically improved stroke outcomes, but many patients do not get to the hospital quickly enough to benefit from them. The second leading cause of death worldwide, stroke is also a leading cause of serious disability. The new music video and ongoing education campaign about F.A.S.T. are part of the American Stroke Association's Together to End Stroke initiative, which conjoins the work of national partners to help improve stroke outcomes.
