Dr. Steven Armus, an accomplished businessman with experience in the medical and land restoration fields, serves as a prairie technician, owner, and environmental biologist at Native Prairie Restoration in Wisconsin. Active within his community, Dr. Steven Armus regularly volunteers with the Guest House of Milwaukee.
Since 1982, the Guest House of Milwaukee has been providing a variety of services to individuals who are homeless, including case management. Individuals who live at the organization’s shelter meet with case managers in one-on-one sessions to assess what barriers they face to independent living. Together, residents and case managers create specific goals to overcome each person’s challenges and to allow them to obtain a sustainable income, permanent housing, and stable mental health.
The Guest House of Milwaukee’s case management programs serve individuals in low, medium, and high need categories. Low need individuals face only a few barriers and require assistance with finding a stable income or housing. Meanwhile, high need individuals likely face barriers relating to mental or physical health and are often referred to facilities that are more equipped to handle these challenges. Case management services at the Guest House of Milwaukee also serve veterans in close collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
