Mike Hernandez III's profile

StudyTime Promotes Academic and Personal Development

A Brownsville, Texas, native and a philanthropist who focuses on socioeconomic issues within Cameron and Starr Counties, Micheal (Mike) Albert Hernandez III entered a semi-retirement from D & M Leasing in 2011 in order to direct more focus on his charitable endeavors. Organizations that Mike Hernandez III supports include the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), which administers programs such as StudyTime.

SVdP’s afterschool tutoring program StudyTime helps students improve their academic performance through homework assistance and mentoring in writing, reading, and mathematics. Students may also participate in activities that promote social-emotional learning, which were implemented after the program’s establishment and initial success. Designed for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, StudyTime is led by teachers with support from SVdP volunteers.

StudyTime has experienced considerable success since its launch and serves more than 200 students across five locations. Continued support from SVdP donors and volunteers will enable the program to expand further and achieve goals that include adding new technology, implementing curriculum assessment, and hiring more certified teachers.
