VPAR: Discovering Golf Courses
Skills used: Stakeholder interview,  usability testing, comparative analysis, heuristic analysis, wireframing, prototyping, visual design
VPAR is live-scoring service that allows golfers to track their performance over multiple golf outings and game formats. It allows golfers to connect, compete and share their activities with other players. The app is available for iOS, WatchOS and Android. Unlike the iOS version of the app, the Android version of the VPAR app did not have a Courses section. The brief was to create new Courses section that allowed users to discover golf clubs in order to  before they book or play rounds.

To kick-off the project I interviewed stakeholders and did user interviews to define the business goals and user needs. One of the main objectives was to make it easy for for your to find a course, to play or book a round their. I conducted competitor analysis and heuristic analysis of the current iOS app. User testing and interviews with golfers was key factor in identifying users goals and needs. Much of the design effort was to look to improve functionality based on features that exist on iOS and redesign them for Android.

Wireframes created to show the flow from the courses pages and the scorecard pages
Based on the qualitative data we redesigned some existing layouts and added some key new features; a GPS/Course map tab that allows the user to see a map of the course and distances hole-by-hole. I worked with the team to create a new layout for ratings and reviews make it easier for user to rate the courses. Depending on the level of experience, we found golfers would want as many statistics about a course as possible. Allowing user to search by course, rather than club and simplifying the scorecard information would allow a clear navigation to find information about each course.
Design documentation illustrates each iteration of the key user flows more fully
The final design is a cleaner more visual layout, that used larger course images to distinguish each club. A simpler tab design allowing for easier navigation around the app. Users are now also able to create a round or book a tee time directly from the courses page.
