Anil Jethmal graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine in 1987. While on vacation in Maine, Anil stopped by to visit Bowdoin. Having not been back in over 20 years, he was pleasantly surprised at some of the new additions to the campus.
In particular, Anil Jethmal was astounded by The Peter Buck Center for Health and Fitness – a generous gift of Peter Buck, class of 1952 and co-founder of the Subway chain of restaurants.
The 44,000 square foot facility focuses on both fitness and wellness. As such, regular wellness classes are available to all students in the ancient eastern arts of meditation, tai chi, qi gong and yoga.
Of Indian heritage, Anil was pleased to tour a facility that promotes the inculcation of eastern holistic wellness practices and values onto western institutions of higher education.
As one who meditates regularly, Anil Jethmal can vouch for the positive effects meditation has on reducing stress and on sharpening focus. Having a facility like this, especially around exam time, is certainly a welcome addition.
