Secret 7" Competition

"Secret 7” takes 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and presses each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. We then invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for every 7”. 700 sleeves are exhibited and then sold for £50 apiece. You don’t know who created the sleeve, or even which song it’s for, until you have parted with your cash - the secret lies within." - Secret 7" Website

Below are my entries to the Secret 7" Record competition in 2016. I created a design for The Jam - Art School and 3 designs for Jack Garratt - Worry, with one being picked as a winning design!
Jack Garratt - Worry
Winning Design

This design was picked to be produced and put on sale at the Secret 7" exhibition in 2016. The influence for this design came from exploring ways that typography could be incorporated into the sleeve, while applying the rule that it cannot include the title of the song or the name of the artist on the cover. This developed into the use of the negative space from the word 'Worry' being arranged in an aesthetically pleasing way. This idea of something negative being turned into something beautiful is reflected in the song.
This design is another version for the Jack Garratt - Worry track. I used an underwater film camera to take the photograph, and then created the coloured stripe with printing inks and a roller.
The Jam - Art School
This is a song that you just want to play full volume on a sunny day with the windows down. I wanted to capture this in an illustration.
