Aberdeen Secret City

Aberdeen Secret City is a self-directed campaign that celebrates the city and adds some colour to the streets. The aim is to encourage people to spend time in the city and enjoy our surroundings. It is to celebrate what we already have, rather than trying to create something new. Most importantly, it is to help people be proud of Aberdeen.

I erected some artworks around the city based on patterns and features that can be found all over Aberdeen. A social media campaign runs alongside, where photos of the artworks are posted on Instagram and Twitter. This will include a photo of where a particular pattern comes from and a clue to the location you can find it. The aim of this is to encourage people to get out and explore the city and perhaps visit an area that they normally wouldn't spend time in.

This is an example of one of the artworks on a bus stop in Aberdeen. I used vinyl to create the design based on the pattern in the side of this building (bottom right).
Below is another example of one of the artworks that I created. The pattern comes from the negative space of this handrail. I then cut the pattern out of vinyl and pasted it up in the city.
