Anil Jethmal's profile

Bowdoin College Museum of Art

A graduate of Bowdoin College, Anil Jethmal recently visited his alma mater after having graduated 30 years earlier. As part of his tour of the campus, Anil Jethmal visited the Bowdoin Museum of Art.

The museum houses an impressive array of paintings and sculptures.  Among the over 300 paintings include works from an eclectic mix of masters including Picasso, Braque, Winslow Homer, Rene Magritte, Jackson Pollock and John Singleton Copley.
Large portraits of Bowdoin Alumni, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and classmate, Nathaniel Hawthorne also adorn the walls of the museum.  Famed historic painter, Gilbert Stuart’s portraits of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson are also part of the museum’s collection as well as Stuart’s portrait of James Bowdoin III, founder of Bowdoin College.

Housed in a different wing of the museum are Assyrian relief sculptures that were carved circa ninth century BC.  The carvings were once part of a palace’s walls in ancient Kahlu.
