HOH Supports Veterans with Employment Opportunities

The recipient of masters degrees in national resource strategy and policy and acquisition and contracts management, David Baucom rose to the rank of rear admiral (RADM) during his nearly 35-year career in the United States Navy. Though still active in military affairs through his involvement with various membership groups, David F. Baucom retired from service in 2016.

Finding full-time, meaningful work can often be a challenge for military veterans once they leave their service. Knowing this, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation launched the Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) initiative in 2011. The goal of the program is to connect employers with veterans and military spouses both in the United States and overseas. Through public-private partnerships and grassroots engagement, HOH has hosted over 1,000 job fairs throughout the country and at military bases overseas, where more than 28,000 veterans have obtained employment.

Additional events put together by HOH include employment workshops, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and a transition summit. It also offers online resources such as a jobs portal, a virtual mentorship program, and professional resume builders. Since its creation, the program's 2,000 participating companies have committed to hiring 710,000 veterans and their spouses through the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign. On August 22 and 23, it's hosting the 2017 Hiring Our Heroes Transition Summit and Military Spouse Symposium in Charleston, South Carolina.
