There are 86 unmarried men for every 100 unmarried women. Additionally, 63 percent of all married couples are introduced by friends as opposed to randomly meeting. Additional research and survey statistics include:

1. First impressions matter. Men decide whether they’ll ask someone out again after just 15 minutes, while women decide within an hour.

2. Fewer people get married. The modern marriage rate, which stood at 50 percent as of 2016, is at its lowest point since 1920, when it was 72 percent. 

3. Men are waiting. The median age of American men at the time of their first marriage is 29.5 years. For women, that number is 27.4 years.

4. Plenty of singles. There are approximately 100 million single people in the United States, 44 percent of all adults.

5. Online dating. Approximately 40 percent of all singles have used an online dating service.
