Claremont Museum of Art’s Project ArtStART

Ali Mesiwala, MD, is a neurosurgeon in Pomona, California. A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of California, San Francisco, he currently serves as chief of the Division of Neurological Surgery at the St. Bernardine Medical Center and as medical director of Chaparral Medical Group. Also an engaged community member, Ali Mesiwala, MD, supports the Claremont Museum of Art.

Located at 200 West First Street in Claremont, California, the Claremont Museum of Art promotes the local community’s art history and culture. The museum was incorporated in 2004 and today operates a number of events, exhibitions, and educational initiatives, including Project ArtStART.

Directed by independent museum consultant Rich Deely, ArtStART was initiated in 2011 to provide high school and college students with the tools to teach art lessons to elementary school students. The program now includes over 66 high school and college teachers who are known as ArtStARTers. ArtStARTers provide education on the visual arts in classroom and museum settings.
