ACCT - Health Advocacy and Education

Well-established in his field, Dr. Mark Holterman serves as professor and attending pediatric surgeon at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. Also serving on the executive board of the Alliance for the Advancement of Cellular Therapies (ACCT), Mark Holterman, MD, engages with impact innovators in developing new regenerative medicine technologies. 

With a mission that spans research, education, and advocacy, ACCT draws together the clinical experience of physicians focused on a wide range of conditions, from diabetes to neurodegenerative diseases. It also brings focus to cellular therapy applications for orthopedics and autoimmune conditions such as multiple sclerosis.

The organization’s annual conference brings together thought leaders in the field and has included such presentations as “Adult Mesenchymal Stem Cells Manage the Body’s Innate Regenerative Capability.” Other presentations have spanned uses of stem cells in treating cardiovascular disease and sickle cell disease. In 2015, Dr. Holterman presented on “The Dilemma of Difficult Diseases: Cell Therapy to the Rescue?” and emphasized a need for solutions that are collaborative and accessible to a broader range of patients.
