David Bohn | Redding, CT's profile

Preferred Utilities Helps Housing Authority

David Bohn is a longtime entrepreneurial presence in the Redding, CT, community who serves as president of Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation. Committed to assisting industrial facilities in meeting emissions and other performance goals for burners and boilers, David Bohn and his Redding, CT, team have guided a number of high-profile projects. These include working for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) in the installation of an API Inject-Aire burner that combines high efficiency with low emissions.

Since its installation more than a year ago, the burner has achieved the basic mandate of saving on fuel and electricity costs and decreasing the carbon footprint and nitrogen oxides emissions. Featuring a natural gas turn-down ratio of 10:1 and an oil turn-down ratio of 8:1, the burner has significantly reduced cycling of the boiler it powers, as well as heat loss associated with pre- and post-purge cycles. The reduced cycling is also expected to lead to prolonged boiler life due to less wear and tear.

The Preferred Utilities burners meet New York City Local Law 87 mandates to decrease carbon footprint over the next several years and offer NYCHA electricity consumption reductions approaching 85 percent when compared to the burners previously in use.
