NE US Calls for Gas Pipeline Development

An accomplished oil and gas industry executive, Ivor R. Ellul serves as managing director of CiSK Ventures Ltd. in Houston, Texas. In this position, Ivor Ellul works with energy businesses to provide guidance on commercial and technical matters. He is also involved with oil and gas asset development.

Recently, the S&P Global Platts Annual Northeast Power & Gas Markets Conference took place, during which power generators and distributors in New York and New England loudly called for more natural gas in terms of both volume and, more importantly, expanded delivery lines.

The Northeast region struggles with severe fuel infrastructure constraints and faces the imminent close of Dynegy’s Brayton Point generating station outside of Fall River, Massachusetts, as well as the decommissioning of Entergy’s Indian Point nuclear complex on the Hudson River. As a result, the region is beginning to waver in its fuel security for the winter months.

Efforts to install new gas pipelines in New York State have recently failed, leaving New England feeling strangled since all new pipelines to that region would have to pass through New York.
