David F. Baucom, a former Rear Admiral (RADM), served in the United States Navy for more than 30 years. While fulfilling his responsibilities in the Navy, David Baucom had the opportunity to travel around the world. One of his favorite cities is Bucharest, Romania.

Located a few hours inland from the Black Sea coastline, Bucharest, the capital of Romania, features a rich assortment of national culture. Here are three of the best sites to see in the city:

1. Carusel Carturesti

Carusel Carturesti stands as one of the most unique bookstores in the world, complete with baroque pillars and winding staircases. Designed with psychology in mind, the architecture and layout of the shop combines for a seamless experience of not only perusing books but also enjoying fine tea and coffee.

2. The Palace of the Parliament

Constructed in the 1980s, the Palace of the Parliament, known as the House of the People, is an administrative building and an architectural feat. The building weighs more than any other in Romania or elsewhere, and it houses more than 1,000 rooms, all ornately decorated.

3. Romanian Athenaeum

Music and theater enthusiasts will appreciate the Romanian Athenaeum, which has hosted everything from classical concerts to TED Talks. The hall seats 775 guests, and, for those unable to attend a performance, tours of the venue run on a regular basis.
