Vehicle infographics in 3d

Our studio makes infographics for more than 7 years. One of the ever-green subjects for infographics is military technology. We did a lot of projects about vehicles, weapons and other stuff. Very first projects had a hand drawn illustrations in them. At some point we started to model and render objects with the help of our 3d artists.
Non-interactive infographics about jet fighter, 2011
There are two major points for making infographics (any).

1. You must lure users. With catchy headline or a bright image. 3d objects (if rendered properly) is nice visual "bate". Through the years we tried a lot of different ways to render object.
2. You must tell a story. All information that you provide to users will become a complex image in their heads. But the more facts you provide the less solid that image gets. So you have to carefully decide which fact about your topic is important and which is not. You have to mind how these facts fits into your story.
No doubts, if you want a full and detailed understanding of some object, you should go into museum and see it there. But when users limited in space (watches images from the screen) and time (have only few minutes to investigate), 3d modelling could be a better way to illustrate structures, to highlight details.

But 3d graphics are also expensive way to illustrate something. And you have to search for the ways to get maximum of it. This includes repackaging old graphics for new media and searching for new formats.
Promo video that announces series of infographics about aircraft of WWII, 2013
In 2013 we made a big project about aircraft of WWII. It contained series of interactive infographics and a promo video. Infographics had renders from orbit-camera, so users could rotate them and inspect from the different angles.

in 2014 we remade this project for gazeta.ru with enhaced renders and updated info.
In 2014 we made a lot of infographics dedicated to 100 anniversary of WWI. Among them was 3d infographics about first tanks.

This time we tried to look inside objects. Renders contained cut-outs.
Of course this methods were used not only for the military topics. In 2011 our department made this static visualisation of curiosity rover.
in 2014 we remade this project with interactive content and more detailed render.
