Brownsville Scholars Program Provides Aid to Low-Income

The chief executive officer of D&M Leasing in Dallas, Texas, Mike Albert Hernandez III maintains an active involvement in the community and engages in various philanthropic endeavors through the Hernandez Foundation. Mike Hernandez III’s contributions include a $1 million donation to the Texas A&M University’s Brownsville Scholars, which provided the university with necessary funds to launch the program in 2016. 

The Brownsville Scholars program provides hardworking, low-income students with the funds and assistance needed to attend Texas A&M University and focuses on facilitating personal growth and successful learning. Students eligible for the program include those pursuing an undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, and those selected to participate will receive a financial aid package to cover the cost of tuition. In addition, students will receive ongoing social and academic support through co-curricular enrichment activities and mentorship opportunities. The program will accept 10 students each academic year. 

In order to qualify for the Brownsville Scholars program, students must demonstrate financial need, be a recipient of the Regent’s Scholarship, and provide evidence of leadership activities in high school. Financial aid packages average approximately $4,500 per year.
