The concept of this logo is about “coming together to form unity” and “a celebration of the differences to strengthen the solidarity” -among nations all around Asia through the biggest sporting event in the region. So the sporting event is not only about the competition between countries but also about a celebration. A celebration of the differences among the Asian countries. A wide variety of cultures, languages, religions, backgrounds, and many other things is what makes the world wonderful in the differences. Indonesia as the host country wants to share its spirit of peace and tolerance, as the country's motto is "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" which means "Unity in Diversity".

The number “2018” is formed as a figure of Cenderawasih bird  (Paradisaea) that has a characteristic of a long yellow-gold tail, and the yellow-green head. This bird leads towards the bottom right, which shows the location of the host country that located in the bottom right (southeast) of Asia

The colorful logo is used to represent diversity derived from different backgrounds and cultures of the countries in Asia. 

There are 4 color gradient segments; 
Red-orange is depicting the passion and the sportsmanship, 
Orange-yellow is depicting  the people and the cultures
Green is depicting the nature of Indonesia
and Blue is showing Indonesian sea and the prosperity.

The colorful logo also represents people from different nations comes from different backgrounds that are coming together to Indonesia for the 2018 Asian Games. The red sun shape beside the bird’s head is a compulsory shape to be featured in every of the Asian Games logo. So here the red sun is used as a figure who constantly shines while the bird is flying.

The use of Asia maps as a background is to show the meaning of the logo where Cenderawasih bird is 'gliding' towards the bottom right of the maps. It consists of a variety of shapes and colors that formed a unity. It represents people from different nations comes from different backgrounds that are coming together to Indonesia for the 2018 Asian Games.



2018 Asian Games’ mascot named ARU, is a Cenderawasih bird, an endemic bird found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The bird is also called Paradisaea. The name “ARU” itself was taken from one of the place where many of these birds were found, which in the Aru islands.

Aru is a simplified character of a Cenderawasih figure. The character style is simple and wants to show the youthful and fun character. Aru wears Asian Games badge on his chest to shows the passion for the competition and the sportsmanship. His long tail is a symbol of flames to reflect the spirit and the ambition and passion. Aru is an energetic boy who has the passion for sport. He is friendly, and always welcome everyone who wants to come to his home, Indonesia.
