David Lawrence, an experienced executive in the energy industry, spent three decades with oil and gas company Royal Dutch Shell. In addition to his experience at Shell, David Lawrence is a sought-after expert on the topic of energy transitions. In 2016, he was honored as a University of Wyoming Energy Law and Policy Fellow and was recently involved in a series of events at the University of Wyoming on Energy Transitions. The University of Wyoming located in Laramie, Wyoming, maintains an Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) that supports international and interdisciplinary research and knowledge sharing through programs and events. One of Mr. Lawrence’s event, sponsored by the IAS, was titled Choices and Challenges of the Energy Transition: Moving from Rhetoric and Conflict to Reality. Held in October of 2016, the event also featured Brad Nielsen, the former general counsel for global litigation at Royal Dutch Shell. The event largely focused on the current use of energy today, scenarios for energy use in the future, and the difficult process of transitioning from one energy source to another. In addition, the event involved a discussion of a framework for future energy policy to address a complex global environment with increasing energy demand.
