in 1991 or 1992 I decided that some of my existing Celtic line arts should be re-purposed for 3-dimensional paper sculptures. I began by tracing the lines of each individual knot piece onto posterboard using carbon paper, then with a pencil extended the ends of every strip by about 1/8". Then they were cut out with an x-acto knife and re-assembled with the pieces all now having enough overlap to look right. All pieces were then glued down one by one, then painted, antiqued, and coated with heavy varnish. The effect was perfect, you can really feel the weaves. All finished sculptures are less than 10" in height.
