Calibre Education

Calibre education is an institution that offers alternative education for a variety of students with needs that conventional schools do not cater for. Lead by LisaAnn and Adam the school is driven by their passion and maintains a very close relationship with all their students. They are very committed to getting each child to reach their potential.

Nicework was tasked with renaming and rebranding the school (Closing the Gap). Our brief was pretty simple, make something that the kids would feel proud to be part of. We had a lot of fun with this, at one point we were considering the name Thunderdome. Our solution, Calibre Education.

We positioned the brand differently for their two primary audiences. 
For students: Calibre is much cooler than normal schools. Aiming for students to actually want to attend Calibre. They are committed to me personally. 
For parents: Calibre is the right option for my child. 

Their unique approach to education was summed up with a new payoff line: “Education is Evolving”
Graphically we wanted to achieve a few things. A personal feeling: by using variation with fluid lines. A passionate brand: we settled on vibrant colours, bold shapes brought energy into the design.  A passionate brand: we settled on vibrant colours, bold shapes brought energy into the design. Finally we wanted to offer the kids ownership through personalisation.
The Calibre C was born out of the idea that you define your own path. It is a never ending line that is not contained, it is not complete or finished. 
The C was paired down with a simple type mark where the C and the A merge into an infinite loop. Gradients are used to bring in colour and an element of dynamism. FF Mark gave the brand a friendly approachable feeling
Stylistically we developed a double sided identity. The inward facing personality speaking to kids: flexible, unique, fun and colourful. The outward facing personality speaking to parents: strong, serious and structured.
