With many years of experience in the financial industry, Anil Jethmal has held leadership positions with such companies as InvestPrivate, Inc. and Smith Barney. A graduate of the prestigious Browning School, Anil Jethmal went on to earn a BA in economics from Bowdoin College in Maine.

Consistently ranked as one of the top 10 colleges in the U.S., Bowdoin College offers students the opportunity to work with highly experienced faculty members. Approximately 97 percent of the faculty hold the highest degrees possible in their fields.

Erik Nelson, an assistant professor of economics at Bowdoin, recently co-authored a paper on the effects of globalization on the diversity of diets. Nelson and his team expected to see a trend of countries specializing in specific crops to encourage consumers to purchase more varied foods from around the world. This type of trend is common in other major industries, such as manufacturing and technology, and usually provides financial benefits and improvements in production efficiency. However, the food industry has not followed the trend of these other industries so far. Local food production certainly has some benefits, but it is relatively inefficient, which could be an issue in a world with rapidly increasing population.
