Christian Borle to Play Willy Wonka on Broadway

As president of Gladstone Consulting, Inc., in Boca Raton, Florida, Aubrey Gladstone has managed more than $100 million in corporate workouts. A long-time fan of Broadway, Aubrey Gladstone follows stage actor Christian Borle, a close family friend since childhood.

Christian Borle, recently playing Shakespeare in ‘Something Rotten!,’ is tapped to play another iconic role soon as Willy Wonka.

In late October, Borle debuted in the revival of 1992’s ‘Falsettos.’ In it, Christian plays Marvin, an Upper West Side New Yorker who recently left his family for a male lover. Though Christian Borle made his mark as a comedic stage actor in plays like Spamalot, ‘Falsettos’ is much more serious in tone than ‘Something Rotten!’

Mr. Borle is scheduled to stay with ‘Falsettos’ through early January, when he will return to a more lighthearted role, playing everyone’s favorite candy man, Willy Wonka, in a Broadway production of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ Borle will debut as the lead in the American version, after Douglas Hodge’s London-based performance of Wonka garnered mixed reviews. The show’s director, Jack O’Brien, says that while they auditioned many actors to fill the role made famous by Gene Wilder, only Christian Borle was the right mixture of innocent menace and mysterious charm.

‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ will officially open on April 23rd at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
