Baucom received his master's degree in acquisition and contract management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. His naval career allowed RADM David F. Baucom to travel around the world. Among his favorite destinations is Budapest, Hungary.

Budapest is a city blessed with an abundance of nature. Bisected by the Danube River and surrounded by the Buda Hills and the Great Plain, it is also home to many hot springs. In fact, its reputation as a bathhouse capital dates back to the time of the Romans.

Budapest also attracts visitors due to its rich architectural history. Architectural styles range from baroque to Art Nouveau. One of the most notable architectural marvels in Budapest is the Hungarian State Opera House. Designed by Miklós Ybl in 1884, the opera house was built in the neo-Renaissance style and is considered one of the city's most beautiful buildings. Its interior features include marble columns, gilded vaulted ceilings, and excellent acoustics. Meanwhile, its exterior is decorated by with statues of some of the most important figures in opera, including composers Mozart and Puccini.
