For the cover, I took inspiration from one of his works, The Hangul Gate, to create a die-cut window to convey the idea of being trapped, and then freed as the book is opened. As you move through the book, the colors become bolder and the 3D elements become more dynamic. I wanted the interaction with the publication to be as vital as the visual design to the overall experience. Much of this interaction depends on the reader. The book itself can be experienced in many ways, flipped through or arranged in many sculptural forms. I wanted the books to have a similar sense of freedom and energy as Ahn's typography.

The above spread can be viewed from many different profiles. But at 90 degree angles, Ahn Sang-soo's work, Bombfish on the Seashore, visually comes together. At the other 90 degree angle, we can read a quote from Ahn that describes his creative process.
