Letting the World Touch Edmonton
Figuratively, of course.
Figuratively, of course.
Edmonton loves sports, and we have a long history of hosting and supporting sporting events, big and small. But, we want to raise our profile to that of other famous Canadian cities like Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary. This year at the annual SportAccord International Convention in Quebec City, Edmonton will be featured as a premier destination for future events – on a global scale.
To achieve this, RED has partnered with Edmonton Events to create a virtual experience like no other. Using a large, interactive multi touch table, we’re bringing the full Edmonton perspective to the world’s stage. Conference attendees will be able to visit Edmonton virtually, and get to know the city as if they were really there.

My role on this project was to ensure that the interface operated smoothly and that the experience was as easy and attractive as possible. To this end I created a system that allowed for dramatic camera angles to be chosen in Google Earth. There were also a number of improvements to how the locations were tracked and the transitions between them.
The table itself is an Oqtopus table from Displax. The interface was created using Google Chrome, HTML5, and the Google Earth API.
