World of Warcraft Class Crest Line Art

World of Warcraft is one of the most popular video games in the world. It has over 15 years of robust history, constant iteration, and award winning gameplay which has captivated over 12 million fans.

I’ve been playing WoW for almost 8 years. I’m particularly interested in the structure and segmentation of the different races and classes a player can choose to embody inside of the Warcraft world. The taxonomy of the class system – whether to wield magic and intellect, or to be a brute of unimaginable strength, to name a few class traits – has a limited number of combinations. At present there are 12 classes (with about 3 specializations per class), 13 races, and two factions to choose from.

These designs are my own representations of the sigils originally designed by the illustrators at Blizzard Entertainment created for each class within the game. I made them using Adobe Illustrator in the style of monoweight line art, which has become popular of late.

The goal of this series is to transform what is normally cliché fantasy game art (which can sometimes be seen as over-the-top and airbrushy) into art normal gamers can show or wear that meets a more modern aesthetic.
