Mr Robot - Title Sequence

I've always wanted to work on title sequences, they set the tone for the rest of the film and/or episode and they can really captivate audiences and get them excited before the 'main event'. Usually my work consists of short promos or small animations and I wanted to try my hand at a title sequence, because eventually that's where I want to end up in my career. From the Kyle Coopers, Andrew Kramers's, Ash Thorp's and Patrick Clair's maybe one day my work could be up there with theirs.

I recently finished watching Mr. Robot, a series created by Anonymous Content and the USA Network and I absolutely loved the show. If you haven't seen it already I'd highly recommended it. Without giving too much away, the programme is about a cyber-security engineer (hacker) who plans on erasing the worlds debt by taking down one of the world's largest conglomerates.

When watching the show I noticed immediately that it didn't have an outstanding graphics title sequence like some of the major American shows out there today such as DaredevilThe Night Manager and True Detective (some of my favourite pieces). Instead of having a title sequence it's a few shots from the show cut with some voiceover and then a few glitches on the logo, which is great don't get me wrong, but with a show with such strong imagery i felt like it needed a title sequence, after all who doesn't like looking at pixels flying around the screen.

So I decided to create one myself as a homage to the show. Recently my work has been going down the technology route and this was a perfect chance to try out a few things. I wrote down a few ideas about how I could tie in the show's narrative with graphics, storyboarded them, created the graphics in Cinema4D and After Effects and here is the final piece.

The photographs and music I used for this piece and any Mr.Robot copyrighted imagery and intellectual property material all belongs to the USA Network and Anonymous Content. I am not claiming to own any of this material, it is purely a fan made title sequence.
