As president and CEO of SEARHC, Charles Clement manages healthcare operations for the Native communities of Southeast Alaska. Charles Clement also supports the Alaska Children’s Trust (ACT), a charitable organization advocating for children’s protection from neglect and abuse.
Established in 1988, ACT accepts support from a network of donors to create projects promoting child welfare. One of its events, Mush for Kids, is a product of their fundraising efforts. The first event in 1997 was made possible through a partnership between ACT and Mush With Pride, an advocate for sled-dog care. This annual event showcases a number of activities for people of all ages, such as dog-sled rides, performances by local artists, puppy-petting pens, and a friendly hockey game against the UAF Nanooks hockey team.
Through Mush for Kids, ACT creates family fun and celebrates the support for children given by the community. The next Mush for Kids event will be held on April 1, 2017, at the Fairbanks Pioneer Park.
