Absence and Presence
I wanted to focus on something quite personal, once again - something to do with my childhood memories, family history, where I come from. After all, our background is what shapes us each as individuals. I started to visit a lot of important places from my childhood, from both my backgrounds, Cyprus and England. It began to develop into self-portraits and close-up documentary details of these places. But the final idea of "presence" focused on a intervention, a self-portrait of myself in these places, but as a very small figure in the picture only, to represent the idea of me being only a tiny part of these places, as there is so much more history and many more memories to these places than just my own memories. The idea of "absence" was to then look at other places without an intervention of myself, and to eventually produce diptychs/triptychs of both presence and absence. Time standing still for me. Me standing still for the camera.
