OVERVIEW:
The Progress Hardware website was very old and antiquated, and management was looking to improve it and add an e-commerce component to the site.

Customers were varied – ranging from local residents to tradespeople and businesses. The business model was very much based on customer service, pricing, and keeping it local--employing local staff and supporting the diverse community that it served.

THE CHALLENGE:
To create a prototype for a website. Design the experience of shopping online for these types of products, meeting the goals of users, the business and the brand goals of the company.

RESEARCH - CARD SORTING:
To help customers find what they needed to, and understand what they found, I conducted a remote Open Card Sort test.

•  Using OptimalSort, I created an online card sorting test, added in all current products, and emailed it out for users to take

We created a test, but after completing it ourselves, we felt it took too long, so we created a shorter version to send out instead.
•  After conducting the remote open card sort, I gathered/recorded data and looked for patterns across sorts, of groupings users categorized products into

•   I also wanted to see how I'd group the products into categories myself, so I grouped the list of products by similarity and categorized them into sections

•  From here, I was able to organize the site into logical categories
