IF YOU ENTER THE CIRCLE, YOUR VOICE WILL BE STOLEN
SOUND OF YOUR MOVEMENT
SOUND OF YOUR BREATHING
AND IT WILL BECOME THE SOUND OF THE LIGHT
FEEL SAFER IN THE CIRCLE, GIVE A BIRTH TO THE SOUND OF THE LIGHT
AETHER is part of the Installation created during the course ‘Art in Public Space’ led by feld72 Architects at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg. Project combines several topics including: the connection between light and safety, private movements in public space and the women’s freedom of movement in public space.
“In the beginning there was only Chaos. Then out of the void appeared Erebus, the unknowable place where death dwells, and Night. All else was empty, silent, endless, dark. Then, Love was born bringing along the beginning of order. From Love emerged Light, followed by Gaea, the earth.Erebus slept with Night, eventually giving birth to Aether, the heavenly light, and to Day, the earthly light. Then, Night alone created Doom, Fate, Death, Sleep, Dreams, Nemesis, and all things that dwell in the darkness haunting mankind.”
Entering the room full of darkness you hear female-voiced AI telling the story of her life, which instantly causes an unprotected ambiance. Your eyes, subsequently used to the darkness, see two lights facing each other from which the first comes from computer screen and the second one is shimmering light located on the ground in the chalked white circle. Temporarily feeling of secure is spread into the air and makes your brain determine swiftly the real possibilities of being protected – the closeness to light. Moving towards the flickering pale light, your brain remembers the main rule of entering this room – if you enter the circle, your voice will be stolen. You have two choices. You have to decide. You have to face this challenge of self-behavior.
