Led by music director Joel Levine, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic was founded to enrich the lives of its community through its music and leadership and to entertain the people who attend its events. Established in 1988, it presents a classics concert series sponsored by the Inasmuch Foundation and a pops concert series sponsored by the Chickasaw Nation, as well as a family concert series aimed at children from 4 to 13 years of age. Additionally, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic offers a range of educational programs throughout the year.

Central to the OKC Philharmonic’s classes for adults is its Be the Orchestra program. With beginning and intermediate classes for bass, cello, viola, and violin, the classes run for eight weeks and meet once a week. Both the beginning and intermediate classes are designed for people who want to participate in one of the OKC Philharmonic’s adult orchestras, which practice and perform throughout the year. The OKC Philharmonic also offers in-school programs for elementary and middle school students as well as events like master classes and music competitions for high school and college students.
