Colay - Concept for music App

It started out as an interview assignment for an internship position, where I had the brief to create an concept for an Music App. Knowing that the concept will go into "red ocean" market, it took more time in the discovery phase, to be able to create something that will bring value to the customer and difference from the current competitors. From the research, the focus was how can this music App bring value and provide a killer UX that eventually are connected to each other.

The first steps in the development phase was getting the design style well defined, in order to get a consistency in the App and message. Choosing the main colours that represent the concept, as well with the fifth element of the logotype which is a symbol for a volume level, in the same time holding the space of the letter "l". The name of the App is a combination between Community and Play, which are two key words of its characteristic, Colay being a strong social app besides the music functionality.

Before going into designing the structure of the app, I had to understand the bigger picture of the whole App. Looking into the information architecture of the App helped to get a better connections between the features and functionalities of Colay. This was a important step for knowing what I will be focusing on, planing which features I will showcase.

After understanding the bigger picture of Colay information architecture, I was able to go in each individual page and design the structure of the elements. The image shown before it is as a rough sketch, to know what content will be able to be provided on each stage.

From the research on the target group, an insight was the problem with how accessible is the song history. Listening to the users needs for a music app, I have implemented an easy button from the music player that shows all the songs played. As well with the function of giving fast feedback on the actual button, the history page will show all the songs from that day that were liked or disliked, in order to be able to change additional preferences. After the day passes the playlist will be formed with the songs that were liked, this function is for the music app artificial intelligence that will recognise more and more what the user needs depending on the context where they are and when.

Colay is made out of five segments in the app, for each different tab there is a colour to represent it. The music player is always on the top of the App, in order to be accessible at any time, the primary function of the app being the music player.

In the discovery mode, you can find music created by the Colay editors on different categories. Or you could see what are your friends listening to at the moment, there is as well another function of discovering music by geo tags, according where the users have played the song.
