Out of Reach Felt-Book

I thought I would share the felt-book I made last year that was included with my grad project. With the illustrated book, Out of Reach, that I created with my friend Chris Lee, I decided to expand the concept into a hands-on, interactive book for children. Our founding concept for the universe of Out of Reach is that is would be collaborative and interactive; therefore, a felt-book in which young children (or fun-loving adults like myself) can play creatively and learn by creating their own stories with the characters and scenes from the book.

What I am posting here is the prototype, handsewn, designed, and "engineered" by myself. I do not consider myself a master (or even a novice) at working with needle and thread; however, I am hoping to expand into the field of crafts.
The entire project is made from felt. Soft and fun to play with!

The outer case is designed to appear as the spaceship in the book. Unfortunately, I never got around to constructing a felt piece of the spaceship... Hopefully when I return to this project.
The felt-book is self contained. It is not important to read the book before (or at all) to enjoy the felt-book version.
It is also packaged within itself and can be easily stored, or taken to other places.
And it is easily all put away.
At the end of the day, this project was an addition to my main work (done with my partner). It is a prototype, but I hope to expand upon it and perfect it!
With volume two of Out of Reach at somewhat of a stand-still as my partner and I figure out the logistics of our work/life balance and working from separate provinces, I am putting this work aside for now as I focus on other areas of my practice.

I do, however, hope to return to it.

Thanks for watching! :)
