Floating fruit

The brief: 
To create a series of bold & simple, yet striking, still life images of various edible items that are suspended in the air.  I've included a few of the final images and some straight-out-of-camera behind the scenses images to show the stages of development of the project.

Floating Orange:
This simple yet creative image was created using a bold and complimentary colour scheme that runs through the whole project.  The orange and pot were shot individually and merged in post production along with the addition of the digital background.

Floating Strawberry:
The taste of summer epitomised in a fresh, clean and simple image of a sliced strawberry.  The fruit was sliced and hung on loops of thread and shot individually then merged in post producton.  A neutral light background is used to strengthen the vibrancy and fresh look of the strawberry.

The Smiling Pepper:
This image continues the theme of simple bold and complimentary colours and was shot using a similar technique.  The slices of pepper were hung on thread allowing the lighting to remain constant for all the slices and then merged in post production.

Floating Lemon:
Similarly to the strawberry a clean, simple & contemporary grey background is used to emphasise the bright and fresh, zesty nature of the fruit.  The slices of lemon were hung on thread allowing the lighting to remain constant for all the slices and then merged in post production.

Behind the scenes - Orange:
The orange was supported using cocktail sticks to hold the position allowing the lighting to be optimised.  The sticks were removed in post production.

Behind the scenes - Orange pot:
Again the image was shot to optimise the lighting and then the background knocked-out and the pot added to the final composition.

Behind the scenes - Floating pepper:
This image shows how the slices were suspended using two loops of thread.  This allows the lighting to be optimised and kept constant for all the slices.  The thread was removed in post production as part of the final editing.
