The Carlsbad Marathon - A Popular Mid-Winter Event

During his 27-year career in the United States Navy, Captain David Schnell commanded two major warships, the USS Ford and the USS Peleliu. Now retired from the armed forces, Captain David Schnell works as an executive with the Xerox Corporation and serves as the director of Christ Kitchen in San Diego. The Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon is an annual community event that takes participants on a scenic course through Carlsbad Village and along the Pacific Ocean. As they advance on the course, runners encounter fully staffed support stations at every mile. Once they reach the finish line, a live band entertains all participants as they celebrate their accomplishment and enjoy a variety of refreshments.

The most recent Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon was held on January 17, 2016. With finishing times well under three hours, Fernando Cabada and Mary Akor were the men’s and women’s first-place finishers. In addition to the races, the event featured a health and lifestyle expo and several other fun activities. Runners can now register for the next Carlsbad Marathon, which will take place January 15, 2017.
