Dutch landscapes I: The ubiquitous water

Feeling your boots diving deep into the grass covered mud of pastures, slimy sandy mud of costal areas, firm water infused sand of wide beaches stretching as far as eye can see you soon become to realise the proximity and ubiquity of water in Netherlands.

The water level and its slow waves beating against the road centimeters below your feet calmly reminds you of how little is needed for whole regions to disappear leaving you surrounded with no escape route.

The water directed by dijks flowing through cities, flowing above your head, above roofs of small houses crouching on the other side of land masses designed to protect them.

The aim of this collection is to depict the varied form of boundary between land and water in Netherlands.

This is the first part of my series about Dutch natureside. You can find the second part here.
North Sea beach near Bergen aan Zee
Lighthouse on the east coast of Noord Holland near Den Haag
Cold angry waters of Buiten Ij
Vast muddy coastline of Waddenzee on the island of Texel
Ducks struggling with strong cold wind of Noord Holland
With the low tide the coastal areas of Waddenzee become huge muddy plains that you can walk on
Storm approaching Zandvoort
Moss covered peer pointing to town of Almere on the other side of Ij Meer
Strong wind driving all the people away from the beach
