Role of ChicagoCAC's Family Hope Center

The president of Olsen Engage, Bryan Specht is a sociology graduate from Ohio University. Also a child abuse prevention advocate and crisis counselor, Bryan Specht has served on the board of the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (ChicagoCAC).

In operation since 2001, ChicagoCAC handles an annual average of 2,000 child abuse cases, some of which are referred to the organization’s Family Hope Center.

Located at Damen Avenue in Chicago, ChicagoCAC’s modern Family Hope Center was established to provide a safe environment for children to heal from the trauma associated with emotional and physical abuse.

Therapists at the facility use approved treatment modalities--such as Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency (ARC)--that are effective in mental health treatment. These treatment methods combine care with art, conversation, and play, to facilitate the healing process.

At the start of the program, therapists collaborate with caregivers to point out challenges facing the children. Challenges addressed by caregivers include aggression, depression, nightmares, anxiety, dissociation, or self-blame, among others. Afterwards, children are scheduled for weekly sessions in which therapists forge trust-based relationships with them and guide them to overcome trauma.
