Line Art vol. 2
More black and white line drawings from a selection of different jobs of projects.
I have had a love for black and white line art ever since I discovered a dusty copy of Andrew Loomis' book "Fun with a Pencil". The challenge of using just a limited repertoire of tools to create stand alone work has been a constant passion of mine. I feel also the limited nature of a black and white line drawing creates a unique venue for artist and viewer to create together. The artist provides a framework, but the viewer is allowed to create the rest, the details, the colors, the setting. It invites the viewer to become an active participant in the work, and that has always made me pursue it as a medium or genre beyond being a mere outline. Below is a selection of line drawings that have been used in a number of projects and jobs, most of which have taken of a full color finished form, but here they are as I prefer them, as black & white illustrations.
Stuff and Things. 2009Some things I drew for a poster given away at the first UNIQUE LA. A design and gift show that happens a couple times a year at the California Market Center.
La Duderina. 2009This illustration was made for a Raveonettes poster. It was also used for an art print for Two Rabbits Studios and also for an Irish music festival. check out the poster HERE!
Future Slaves of GWAR! 2011This illustration was originally for a GWAR poster. Unfortunately the untimely passing of Flattus Maximus also brought on the untimely death of the project. Two Rabbits Studios used the illustration for a KORN poster, which you can see HERE!
Imperial Mammoth. 2012This illustration was for the band Imperial Mammoth.
Palanese Island Princess. 2011
Used for an Empire of the Sun poster. I colored this original pencil illustration with watercolors. Check out the final screen printed poster HERE!
Octo-pool. 2008An illustration I made for a Les Claypool poster. You can see the full color illustration HERE!
Monsters on Bikes. 2009Originally for an art piece and print set for a show also titled, "Monsters on Bikes" at LA's Bike Oven, bike shop.
Jamie Lidell. 2008This illustration was made for a Jamie Lidell poster. The man is a multi-talented, multi-tasking musical genius so this multi-armed pseudo portrait seemed fitting.
