El-Ahrairah - Sculpture 2015

Inspired by both a stray rabbit I rescued during the summer of 2015 as well as the story Watership Down, I set out to create a slightly larger than life plaster sculpture of a rabbit. The goal was to capture a usually fleeting moment for rabbits - the quick scratch of the nose, the swiveling of the ears, the turning of the head. The sculpture was first made from clay, then a silicone mold was made, and plaster holds were made to stabilize the silicone mold. After the clay was removed from the inside of the silicone mold, two plaster rabbit sculptures were cast. The first one turned out too fragile because the top layer did not cure properly, so the sculpture pictured below is the second (and better) attempt.
