Interaction Design for travel website (myTrip)

Description

As a student in Interaction Design (HCDE 536) class, we had to create creative and engaging solutions for a specific persona in given constraints. Eventually we created a movie that displays different interactions possible using the modern day technology in a travel context.

The video is available here: myTrip IxD

User Persona Details
Problem 1: Create a website for persona to check for tailored travel deals.
Deliverables: IxD and Prototype
Note: Website content changes when user logs in to provide personalized content

Solution
Step ONE: Create Scenarios

Scenario 1:
Xiaoyu is in her winter quarter 2015. On a Sunday before the final’s week, she starts planning for her Spring break. She wants to travel to her friend’s place in L.A. She is interested in exploring places around L.A. But, she has a limited budget of $1000 (at max) for the entire trip. She logs onto myTrip and explores different options on the website. She adds the destination, source, travel dates and budget constraints. She gets few travel suggestions and decides to add more personalized constraints to filter the suggested results. She has to leave the website for continuing on her assignments. So, she decides to save the travel inquiry and is directed to register for an account. She completes registration and logs out of the website.

Scenario 2
Xiaoyu is lef with only one exam due tomorrow. She wants to complete her travel reservations and fly as early as possible. She gets a call from her friend from New York inviting her to come over to New York for the Spring break. Xiaoyu is now confused and wants to make both the travels but understands that she has a max budget. She wonders what would the cost be of either of the trips and hence logs into myTrip. She had previously registered an account on myTrip and saved her L.A. trip on her account. She opens this previously searched travel inquiry and continues with the L.A. search and is suggested with a planned itinerary by the site based on her parameters. She is also offered a compare trip option. She adds all the filter parameters relevant to her new trip like budget, interests, etc. and completes the search. She is offered a planned itinerary by the site which considers her preferences. She compares both the trip expenses and decides to go ahead with L.A. as it is less expensive. She buys the plan and checks-out.

Step TWO: Create User Flow (Navigational Sitemap in this case)
Step THREE: Design Wireframe
Step FOUR: Create High Fidelity Prototype for User Testing

Please find the prototype of website live at: http://225jcu.axshare.com/home.html
Problem 2: Create a mobile solution for a travel service

Solution
Used the same procedure, Scenario - User Flow - Wireframing - Prototyping

Checkout the mobile prototype live at: http://c3pt5s.axshare.com/

Few excerpts are available (in action) below:
Hidden interactions with tutorials
- Change your itinerary and get suggested for more options right through a single click.
- Explore more detailed information about your upcoming events in the itinerary.
Problem 3: Show Interactions in ACTION (Video Prototype)

Storyboarded multiple interactions and scenarios by sketching out ideas. Collected all 40+ ideas and picked the top 10 to implement into a scripted video prototype. Prepared script by reaarranging the scenarios in order of impact/needs of the user.
