What I really love about Illustrator - is that huge amount of different possibilities to create some unique stuff. In the ways you didn't even think about, before you actually try. Same happened with this backgrounds. I was working on absolutely different stuff and suddenly mentioned some interesting side products. With a little advances I managed to obtain this silky structure.
I don't actually know what is it similar with, so called it Silky Glitch 'cos of these smooth wavy distortions.  
Here Is some closeups of texture. Detail level of this threads/waves is really stunning. But there is only ~620 objects on the artboard.
