ExpenseThis
Problem: Filing a simple expense can still take upto 4 minutes. Can we reduce this time by using newer technologies?
Thought Process:
- User Research:
What type of users use Concur?
What products do these users use?
What other types of apps do these users use out of Concur ecosystem?
What are the different scenarios in which users use Concur?
Look at user engagement data to create a prioritized list of problems.
- Hypothesis Driven Developement Approach:
Pick the top problems and define our desired goals such as- drastically reduce the amount of user input.
Hypothesize the user story such as- a user wants to file an expense in one tap.
Describe what success looks like- User is successful when the expense is filed and a notification is received.
- UX Design and Development:
Design the user flows in different scenarios.
Develop the prototype with wireframes and basic functionalities to test in scenarios.
Get early feedback and reiterate the process.

- Software Development Lifecycle Management
Lock the requirements, prepare a timeline and define feature set
Research Open-Source technologies and APIs using utilization Vs scope matrix
Code the mobile client and the server by developing and integrating one feature at a time
Perform unit testing
Perform Quality Assurance and system testing upon version release
Deploy the app to multiple users
Collect feedback
Fun fact: We found out that location data on iWatch with WatchOS2 could be accessed and hence we changed the software to do exactly that. Thus, the app became more lean and swift.
- Feedback:
Collecting user analytics data and measuring how people use the app.
Perform usability study and incorporating the feedback is a key step.
Competitive analysis also adds a lot of value throughout the development process.
AttendIt - add attendees instantly
Problem: Adding an attendee for an expense using Concur Mobile is extremely painful.
User Experience Improvement Process:
- What is the current user flow?
- Where is the pain point? defining multiple pain points in the current flow...
- Performed Usability Test on the current user flow.
- Performed Competitive Analysis to see where we stand and gather new ideas from apps people use.
- Designed the experience and started agile development.
- Enhanced the design and reiterated the user flow for a smarter and enhanced experience.
- Performed AB testing to gain more insights into how the users would use the system.
Fun fact: The improved experience was compared with adding friends on Facebook and Whatsapp by multiple users who tested it. :)
