CARRIER BIRD'S SKETCHBOOKFRIDAY

CARRIER BIRD'S SKETCHBOOKFRIDAY

I’m a huge fan of sketchbooks, I love buying them, taking them with me wherever I go,
doing my drawings and sketches in them and looking at the ones from other people.

So, even though it's something quite personal, I've decided to share little bits of my book each Friday, or most Fridays anyway. I've started this project in July on my website and I'd like to show you the first few I did.

Check out my instagram page if you would like to see more!

SKETCHBOOKFRIDAY NO.2

10.07.2015

This Friday I’m showing you some of the sketches I’ve done for my newest Carrier Bird postcards. I normally draw them with
ink and pen directly in my sketchbook, often while watching series (The Mentalist this time). Then I scan them and color them,
do some corrections if needed and put different parts of drawings together with Photoshop or Illustrator. Sometimes I spend hours on correcting and changing one single drawing even though I’m sure nobody even sees the difference. Well, I do anyway, and it bothers me when I’m not a 100% happy with the result.

You can see the finished versions of the postcards in my portfolio or in my shop. Happy Friday!

These are the first drawings with ink and pen I ever did, that was in 2010. When I was around 16, I used to write lyrics of songs I liked in my sketchbook with sepia ink, I think it felt very poetic at the time. In 2010 I didn’t think so anymore, so I decided to just draw over the writing. I think it looks quite nice that the writing is underneath, it becomes like a structure of the drawing.

Later I used the ostrich and the fish for serigraphy prints and for my postcards, you can see both in my shop. I realized the neck of the ostrich isn’t long enough, so I had to draw some more ostrich-neck on the other page.

In June 2013 I’ve done the first sketch for BIRDS WITH BEARDS. I’ve always thought this would be a cool name for a company, a song or a project. So I decided to do a postcard first, you can see it in the first picture. Since then, I’ve drawn a lot more of them. The beards are beside the birds at the moment, I’ll put them on them digitally.I’m planning to do a poster with birds of all sorts and the beards that fits their „look“. I’ve drawn a few already (and a fish), but I need a lot more for the poster.

Let me know if you if you have a favorite bird that absolutely needs to be on there
(and a type of beard that fits them of course, or a mustache). Have a nice weekend!

Today I’m showing you some of my newest sketches. I’ve started doing drawings for this year’s winter and christmas postcards, here’s a sneak peek at them. It felt quite weird drawing winter jumpers, ice skates and hot chocolates while it was 30 degrees outside.

Happy Friday!

Sketchbookfriday No.6 is all about Belgium. I’ve been there this summer for two weeks and it was great. I wrote and drew in my sketchbook every day, I’m gonna show you a few pages (my website won’t let me show more, the file gets too heavy). I’ll show you more of it on another sketchbookfriday if you like it. Enjoy!

One year ago, I was travelling trough Thailand for two months. We started in Bangkok, went up to Chiang Mai, and from there all the way south. We travelled by train most of the time, from quite modern night trains that a lot of tourists use to very slow and bumpy old ones, where we had to stop many times because of animals or plants on the tracks and where we were the only european people on the train. But no matter what kind of train, there was always great food served on the way.

At every train station, someone came in to sell all kinds of menus, served in banana leafs. I’ll show you the first three pages of my travel diary, which I drew in Chiang Mai and in Amphawa, two of my favourite places in Thailand. Happy Weekend!
