Variable Data Postcard Reflection Paper
There wereseveral things that I struggled with on this variable data postcardproject. I wasn’t very sure with what Iwanted to do for a design idea to start. I also had some simple problems once I started my postcard designwork. This wasn’t too hard to fix withthe help of ideas from Google searching for some inspiration.
Whenthis assignment was first assigned I didn’t know how to do variable data atall. I had not been taught it yet sothis made it a little difficult. In ourclass you showed us the simple process of how XmPie works. I also am in a prepress class with Lee and hestarted teaching us variable data the same time we started this postcardproject. In his class he went into depthmore with how to do variable data and how XmPie works. This really helped me get a better workingknowledge of how everything works together with variable data.
Iused a website that I found to help me come up with a design idea for thispostcard. The site just had a lot ofvery detailed and complex posters. Ifound a couple where they were placing pictures in unique ways. So I decided I would use a paint splatterbrush in Photoshop to create a place where I will have a variable imageplaced. I thought that this would be agood idea concept for a design. I’vealso grown very fond of what Apple does on their website with the mirroredreflections of some of their products on the site. I used this idea to help add some depth to mypostcard and I think it turned out nice.
Idecided to use the UNI colors within my design. As far as my final results go I am happy with what I have created. I feel that it’s an easy postcard to look atwith nice designing. I am the most happywith how my images sit into the design. The paint splatter in the corner with an image in it looks good tome. Dafont provided me with a differentfont that I’ve began to use a little more. The font is called Harabara. Overall this project has introduced me to variable data and I likedworking with it. In Lee’s class we arefiguring out all the different ways we can add dynamic information within adesign. It’s very cool what all XmPiecan allow you do to. Now we just need toget the Hp Indigo running so we can learn to use a digital press for projectssuch as this variable data postcard.
